Bolivia Expedition

Bolivia’s Cordillera Real (Royal Range) contains seven peaks above 19,685 feet and over 600 peaks above 16,404 feet/5000 m, all jam packed within a range that stretches a mere 78 miles in length. Although these mountains give amazing opportunities for mountaineers all around the world, this is considered one of the world’s best kept secrets.


Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVE IN LA PAZ 11,942 ft/3640 m

Travel and arrival times may vary, but most incoming international flights land in La Paz late at night. We will meet you at the airport and take you via private transport to the hotel to rest for the night and recharge after a long day of travel. (no meals included)

Day 2: LA ISLA DEL SOL 13,369 ft/4075 m

We will pick you up from the hotel at 8:30am after a delicious breakfast, we will head to Copacabana in a private car, driving for approx. 3 to 4 hrs. After lunch, we will take a boat to the Island of the Sun on Lake Titicaca. Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) is an island in the southern part of Lake Titicaca. There are no motor vehicles or paved roads on the island. The main economic activity of the approximately 800 families on the island is farming, with fishing and tourism augmenting the subsistence economy. A friendly hostel will receive us as guests for the evening. (B)

Day 3: COPACABANA 12,601 ft/3841 m – LA PAZ

After breakfast, we will walk around the island. We will head north to Challampampa. The trek will take about 3 hours and then we will head to our boat to return to Copacabana. Once we arrive at Copacabana, we will visit the Church La Iglesia de La Virgin and then head back to La Paz. (B)

Day 4: RINCONADA – BASE CAMP CONDORI 15,190 ft/4630 m

We will begin with an early departure from La Paz and will drive about 3 hours to the Rinconada ranch where the vehicle will drop us off. Then, after rounding up a team of llamas or mules for our gear, we have a 2-hour trek to the Chiar Khota Lake 15,190 ft/4630m where we will set up our base camp.  Overnight in tents. (B/BL/D)

Day 5: PICO AUSTRIA 17400 ft/5303 m

After breakfast, we will get ready to hike our acclimatization trek to Pico Austria at 17,400 ft/5303 m. This ascension through the moraines takes about 3 hours, the view from the summit of Pico Austria are impressive, you can watch the entire massif Condoriri and more. Return to Base Camp, 2 hours. Overnight in tents. (B/BL/D)

Day 6: PEQUEÑO ALPAMAYO 17,618 ft/5370 m

Early in the morning, we will get ready to ascend along the side of the glacier to the summit of Pico Tarija at 17,388 ft/5300m and then Pequeño Alpamayo 17,618 ft/5370m. The ascent takes around 5 hours. After our long day of high summits, we will descend to the Chiar Khota Lake to our Base Camp. Overnight in tents. (B/BL/D)

Day 7: RETURN TO LA PAZ

Day 7 is free day. We will return to La Paz and rest for the afternoon to get ready for next our big objective, the Huayna Potosi. Overnight in the hotel. (B)

Day 8: FREE DAY IN LA PAZ

Today is a rest day. In the afternoon you can visit “El Alto” (the highest neighborhood in La Paz.) (B)

Day 9: BASE CAMP HUAYNA POTOSI 17,060 ft/5200 m

Departure from La Paz in our private vehicle (2 hours) to the base camp, “La Plataforma de Zongo” (15,748 ft/4800 m). Then we start our ascent (a 3 hour hike) to “Altos Rocas” high camp (approx. 17,060 ft/5200 m). Overnight in tents. (B/BL/D)

Day 10: SUMMIT DAY HUAYNA POTOSI 19,973 ft/6088 m

We will begin our alpine ascent early in the morning and after a hot drink, we will scale the peak of Huayna Potosi at 19,973 ft/ 6088 m.The climb takes approximately 6 hours to the summit, and 4 hours to return to base camp. After we return, we will pack our belongings and descent to the parking area where our vehicle will be waiting for us. We will head back to La Paz and rest in our hotel for the evening. (B/BL)

Day 11: FREE DAY Rest day in La Paz and celebration of our trip! (B)

Day 12: TRANSFER OUT, FLY BACK HOME, OPTIONAL FREE DAY

Day 13: FLIGHTS HOME

Pricing

$3,650 per person

A $750 non-refundable deposit secures your spot.  Payments can be made in any amount up to 45 days prior to trip departure, 45 days prior to your departure the full amount is due.

Difficulty

This is a high altitude expedition and a high level of fitness is required, all participants should be physically fit and prepared for long days in the mountains. Climbers should have previous crampon and ice axe experience. Prerequisites apply. Climbers should be able to carry a 50 pd. pack through rugged terrain for 12+ hours.

A non-refundable $750 deposit secures your spot. Trips run rain, shine, sleet, or snow.  Please do not make travel arrangements until a confirmation email is received. Any cancellations over 45 days of your adventure will receive a full refund minus the deposit. Any cancellations within 45 days of your adventure are non-refundable.  We highly recommend travel and rescue insurance.  If something happens, this will cover your expenses.  NRMG reserves the right to dismiss any participant if they are not physically, mentally, or technically (inadequate gear) prepared.  NRMG also reserves the right to dismiss anyone if they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Any dismissals by NRMG are not eligible for a refund.  As professional mountain guides, our cancellation policy helps with our guides job security.  There is no guarantee of reaching the summit, as peoples physical fitness, the weather, and the rigors of high altitude climbing can be a factor. The operator reserves the right to change the itinerary without previous notice due to weather, National Park regulations or notifications, and unforeseeable circumstances   Our job is to provide a safe and fun experience for everyone.  Must sign waiver. 14+ with parent/legal guardians signature required.
